We see you. We know that you've been through a lot. You've had to deal with social isolation, insane costs of living, a government that you can't trust, and a world of technology and advertising that was built to exploit you. All in your hardest years of development.
We see what you did. You used forced isolation to connect with your family, instead of pulling away from them. Instead of turning to drugs and alcohol like our generations did, you turned away from it. Instead of turning to crime, you decided money wasn't everything.
The more we read the stats on your generation, the more we realise that you are just better than us, in every way.
You are being blocked from buying a home, and instead of dwelling on that, you decided that travelling and living your lives is more important, because there is no point focusing on a goal that is unrealistic.
You don't want money and status at work, you don't care about the executive track anymore. You want something that matters, something with meaning and purpose and work-life balance. You would take a pay cut to work for someone you trust.
You don't go to schoolies for a drunken bender, you go there to meet new friends, have experiences and make connections. In fact, you drink less than any other generation, because you see what it did to our generations, what the cost of that culture was.
You are natural digital wizards, highly competent in all forms of media and you will drive the future of technology. But you also value real-world interaction, with increased interest in offline activities and shutting out overwhelming news, you preserve your own mental well-being.
You are far more open minded. Most of you have said that you've had at least one inter-racial relationship and you are unbiased to all genders, all sexual preferences as your friends, as it should be. You don't make it a big deal. You make people feel comfortable to be exactly who they are.
You are altruistic, helping others, standing up against bullying and unfairness and valuing mental health. Even in your younger years, you were already thinking about how you could help keep the planet healthy in your careers.
Stand up.
On behalf of your millennial friends, please stand up so we can give you a round of applause. You ought to be so proud of yourselves.
P.S. How do I convert this document to PDF?
